As part of the full refurbishment and seismic strengthening of the building, all mechanical, electrical and hydraulic services were replaced to meet the needs of the new building use as a grandstand, Cricket Museum and offices for Cricket Wellington.
eCubed carried out intensive modelling and building simulations to optimise the architectural details of the building envelope with respect to its thermal performance and airtightness within the limits of the given structure and the historic appearance of the building.
This allowed for mix of high-level ventilation and air conditioning system where needed to ensure a closely controlled environment for the Museum space and the artifacts presented. The mechanical system comprising a heat pump and a chiller was selected to meet today's and future demands to reduce primary energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Lighting fittings and luminaires were carefully selected to be energy efficient while providing the level of lighting required to the various spaces and functions of the building, but also integrate seamlessly to retain the heritage aspects of the building.
