Projects > Wellington Cenotaph

The Cenotaph monument built in 1929 is one of Wellington's most iconic landmarks and has been a venue to many important commemorative ceremonies during its lifetime. 335 were engaged to undertake lighting design and consultation to provide a modern refresh while respecting and accentuating the heritage aspects. A spine of new light poles was introduced into the square to highlight main circulation and improve surveillance at night. The placement of lighting for the Cenotaph could not intrude on the monument so feature lights with specialised optics were located on the surrounding street-light poles to illuminate the structure. LED lights were incorporated into the handrails as a discrete solution for the new stair lighting.
